The Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) has welcomed the visit of the Westfield Junior Matildas in partnership with the Australian Government and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade under the ‘Pacific Step-Up’ and the Australia Pacific Sports Linkages Program.
The Matildas U-19 will play against the U-19 team of Vanuatu who is also in preparation to attend an OFC tournament in Cook Islands by the beginning of this month.
VFF’s Secretary General (SG), Albert Manoroto said that is a first-time program which is initiated by the Australian government and VFF is working closely to assist the programs here in Vanuatu.
Mr Manoroto encouraged soccer fans throughout Port Vila and Efate to come support our U-19 girls’ team as the event will be free for the public to watch and to enjoy the game between our Pacific friends from Australia and the National U-19 team. He said that such initiative is very good for the Vanuatu U-19 team as Australia is ranked #8 in the global women’s football ranking. SG Manoroto mentioned that having visits from such great team is a good opportunity for the Vanuatu team and also a great challenge.
He encouraged the Vanuatu team to be well prepared for the upcoming game. Mr Manoroto said that it is also within VFF’s development program to promote and allow girls to compete and such programmes in promoting and developing the football level of women and girls in Vanuatu.
“This is the reason why we VFF has also sent in a team to represent women’s football at the recent Pacific game in Samoa. It is a great opportunity for our U-19 girls and VFF welcomes the Australia’s support and initiative to deliver such program. It doesn’t matter on the results achieved after the game, the most important thing is for the girls be involved and develop on their skills and level of football in Vanuatu.” said SG Manoroto.
VFF would like to acknowledge the Australian Government and those involved in making this event happen.
The Vanuatu U-19 Women’s National Team will play against the Westfield Junior Matildas on Monday, 12 August 2019.
In other news, the Vanuatu U-18 OFC tournament will also commence this month on the 15-24th of August. VFF would like to remind the public that both tournaments are free and welcomes all soccer fans throughout Efate and Port Vila to come support and cheer on our youth teams, both the ladies U-19 and the men’s U-18 team, and also our visitors participating in the event.
