Wendy Himford Snooker Cup to promote young players

The Wendy Himford Snooker Cup started at Liberal Club in Tebakor yesterday with an initiative of getting in more young players into the sport.

Close to 40 participants are currently competing in these four days competition which culminates on Friday.

National veteran player and organiser Jonathan Bakon said; “ We are trying to promote snooker in Vanuatu, we only had one table before but now there is no table.

“We need to promote and get young people to come in and represent Vanuatu in overseas competitions,” Bakon said.

Fifty players are currently in the national snooker player base system but unfortunately majority of these players are near retirement.

“ We need to get in young players to do the job.”

Committee to be selected tomorrow and be registered with VASANOC

The Vanuatu Snooker Federation will select a new committee tomorrow that will run the association and also register the association to the Vanuatu Association of National Olympic Committee(VASANOC).

The winner of the Wendy Himford Snooker cup receives Vt15,000 and runner up gets Vt10,000.

There will be 16 prizes up for grabs.
