Minister for Youth and Sports Francois Chani has announced Vanuatu will bid for the 2027 Pacific Games.

Chani made the announcement during the Australian's Foreign Minister Marise Payne sports visit through Vanuatu Cricket Association at Independence Park yesterday.

The Minister for Youth and Sports in Vanuatu, Francois Chani just recently returned from Australia and  has held talks with his Australian counterpart, Richard Colbeck, with a view to establishing more sporting links between the two countries.

He says it's all part of the push to stage the Pacific Games in Port Vila in 2027, with the Council of Ministers poised to sign off on Vanuatu's bid.

"Vanuatu is bidding to host 2027 Pacific Games and we are optimistic that government of Australia be able to assist us particularly through the PSP programme," Chani said.

Also one of his objectives of his Australia  trip was to discuss his Ministries main objectives and how Australia can assist.

"We had great positive meeting. My main objective of my trip to Australia was to discuss my Ministries major priority and to discuss how best Australia government can assist.

"One of the main objective was to provide sports facilities, activities and youth employment through proper facilities and activities. More then 50 percent population are made up of women majority residing in rural areas and this will benefit  for opportunities.

"As we all know participation in sports from grass-root level, and promotion of healthy living style will automatically lead to decrease of NCD as we all know 74 percent of death in Vanuatu are NCD related," he added.
