Vanuatu Rugby Union will kick off their first round robin game of their 40th Independence Anniversary competition next Friday at Independence Park.

The men’s team will compete in 15s code while the women’s will compete in 10s rugby code.

The first fixture next week will see Ovins taking on Ifira Blackbird both men’s and women’s divisions.

To all rugby union supporters and fans around the island if you don’t have anything to do next Friday afternoon, get your families to Independence Park and support some exciting rugby union actions.

The Vanuatu 40th Independence Anniversary will still be celebrated nationwide with Port Vila hosting the biggest event. A week-long event is expected that will commence on July 23 as usual with the Victory Parade.

VRU president earlier told this newspaper that for the final they hope to secure Korman Stadium depending on its availability.

“So we will be having 15’s rugby for the men’s and 7’s or 10’s for the women since there are only three women’s clubs; Ovins, Shepherd and Ifira clubs,” Miller said.
