Vanuatu men’s rugby 7s team is out of the Oceania rugby sevens championships following their three losses in their pool game at the ANZ Stadium in Suva, Fiji yesterday.

The Morrison Dansey coached side lost their opening game to Tonga 34-0, later went down to Australia 52-7 and were edged out by American Samoa 19-7 in their final pool match on day one of competition yesterday.

Despite the results head coach Dansey said; “ Most of these boys are new to this environment and i think possession was a challenge for us.

“ It’s great to be here, it’s a proud moment for the boys to represent the country. They don’t often get the opportunity to play like this and for them to come here and a have a feel is a joy.

“ We know it’s an Olympic qualifying tournament so all teams came prepared and even though we are tier two nation but we are proud to come here and represent our country.

“ This is a progress from last year,” Dansey added.

Meanwhile the women lost their debut match to host Fijiana 38-0 late yesterday.
