Vanuatu heading to Malaysia for Men's Cricket World Cup Challenge

The Vanuatu Cricket bade farewell to their Holiday Inn Resort Vanuatu National Men’s cricket team on Sunday the 8th of September as they head off to Brisbane on the first leg of their journey to Malaysia for the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League. The ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge (CWCC) league is the inaugural replacement of the World Cricket League (WCL) and it will serve as the qualification pathway for the 2023 men’s cricket world cup. The league is divided into two groups with Vanuatu falling into group A with the likes of Canada, Singapore, Denmark, Malaysia and Qatar. The competition will be played over three years and the top team from each group, at the end of the three years, will advance to a playoff tournament which will take place in 2022 to decide who will play in the global qualifier for the ten team world cup in 2023. Vanuatu, currently ranked 29th in the world, has made it as far as Division 4 in the now replaced World Cricket League, and they are looking to make an impression and kick off their 2023 world cup campaign on a high in Malaysia. In their preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge, team Vanuatu are currently in Brisbane and have played two warm up matches against the Wanderers Cricket Club on Monday 9th and Tuesday 10th September. The team came out victorious in both games and are looking forward to their biggest challenge on Thursday the 12th where they will take on the Australian Indigenous team with big names in Australian Cricket. The team will leave on Friday the 13th of September for Malaysia where they will compete in group A of the ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge that will commence on Monday September 16th. Vanuatu will play against Canada in their opening match of the Challenge followed by Denmark, Singapore, Malaysia then Qatar. Tournament fixtures and live scores can be found via the link below.
