While sports competitions around the country are organised every year to mark the independence celebrations, the North Pentecost Football League’s Independence Cup is currently underway with games taking place at Loltavola Sports Ground.
The competition has now gone through five rounds of matches.
Unlike in Port Vila where it is a knock out competition, all 11 clubs are placed into two pools. Pool A with 6 teams and Pool B with 5. The top two teams will then go on to semifinals.
According to Tarimea Linvanua from the North Pentecost Football League, the latest round of matches saw Ruerue beating Ghost 5 by 9 goals to nil also in group A Tahimahuri beat Green United by two goals to nil. Over in group B, Lonstar beat Besictas by two goals to one.
Ruerue is leading group A with 9 points, followed by Green United also with 9 points. Basictas is leading group B with 7 points followed by All Reds also with 7 points.
In the boys under 17 games Ruerue beat Tahimahuri by two goals to nil while LTT also beat Green United by two goals to nil.
In the girls under 17 games LTT and Green United ended in a one all draw.
In the boys under 15 games Ruerue and AFC also ended their match with a goal a piece.
