The 2020 Melanesian Athletics Championships will now be hosted in Lautoka, Fiji on June 24-25.

Oceania Athletics confirmed in a media statement the championships will be held at Churchill Park, and Multi-purpose Stadium in Lautoka.

After careful consideration and lengthy discussions, it has been agreed that due to local logistics, the Melanesian Championships will move from Port Moresby, Papua New Guiana to Fiji.

The Melanesian members include Australia, Fiji, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

The Oceania Regional Championships are conducted in the three Oceania Regions in 2020.

  • Polynesian Championships Nuku’alofa, Tonga 14-15 May
  • Micronesian Championships Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands 12-13 June
  • Melanesian Championships Lautoka, Fiji 24-25 June 2020

The Regional Championships are an excellent opportunity for Federations to get international competition exposure for elite and developing athletes.

Held in even years where there is no major Regional Games or Area Championships, they provide opportunities to gain experience at a smaller international competition.
