Ifira Blackbird won the U15 category in the Port Vila Rugby League Life and Style 9s tournament at Korman Stadium last Saturday.

Ifira defeated Mele Eels 31-0 in the final.

The victory was the evident of development programme that Ifira is doing in the island as far as sports is concern.

Team secretary Pastor Billy Taiwia said; “Because we live in the community that involves sport we need to have development so as you can see we have brought a senior team and junior and women’s team to the competition.

“So by looking at it Ifira has a future of rugby league and rugby union,” Taiwia said.

Since the inception of rugby league in Vanuatu in 2010, Ifira adopted to the code.

“Our community is very supportive when it comes to sport. Boys play Union and rugby league and support remains the same,” he added.

“The players adopt well to training in both codes, rugby union and rugby league and we happy with what they have achieved at this Nines tournament.”

Powerhouse wins men and women

Meanwhile Powerhouse women won the women’s division defeating Mele Eels 6-4 and Powerhouse men won the men’s division following their 10-0 victory over Police in the final.
