Contrary to USP pro-chancellor and council chair Winston Thompson’s view that “ he saw no reason why Australia and New Zealand should facilitate the [special]meeting “ of the university council called for by regional members ( FT 16/5), I believe there is very good reason for it in light of what has transpired thus far under Mr Thompson’s stewardship.

Australia and New Zealand engagement at this critical juncture would ensure independence and impartiality in decision making which has been conspicuous by its absence under Mr Thompson.
