Dear Editor,

As a concern citizen, I would like to highlight some of the ways that we can teach our children to prevent sexual abuse. Sexual abuse has become a major concern in our country.

Many young kids have been sexually abused because they were not taught about body safety.

Most parents teach their kids about other important things, but not about body safety. This was because of our culture that prevent such teaching to be discussed openly and also parents think kids are too young for such teaching.

Therefore, in order to prevent children from sexual abuse, parents should teach them early about their body safety.

Parents should teach them about body boundaries that certain body parts are private and no one should see, touch or take pictures of it, even if the person is a close relative.

Furthermore, parents should also teach their children to report any person who tries to make any secret contact with their body, because most perpetrators will tell the child to keep the abuse secret.

Lastly, it is the responsibility of parents to teach their children how to get out of uncomfortable situations especially when older people forced them to do things that they are not comfortable with.

Therefore, if we teach our children about these things it can prevent sexual abuse especially with young children who are targeted due to their innocence and ignorance in this area.

Sincerely,

Janita Kukura
