The Vanuatu-China Friendship Association (VCFA) has recently hosted a dinner to commemorate the 40th independence anniversary and at the same time raise funds for Vila East School.
VCFA has been supporting education since its establishment several years ago.
Apart from raising funds for the school, the recent occasion was an opportunity to celebrate together with friends and strengthen relation.
Some members of the general public, Vanuatu Chinese Community, Vila East School, business houses including VFCA members attended the event at Harbour View Restaurant.
Funds for Vila East School were raised from dinner tickets, sponsorship from business houses and raffle tickets. Over Vt300,000 was collected and donated directly to the school that evening.
When thanking VCFA, Principal of Vila East School, Haward Mele, said it is not the first time for the association to support the school.
The funds will help to keep the school operating until the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) release the second grant, he said.
President of VCFA, Mildred Sope, said: “Even though we are struggling from COVID-19 pandemic and economic challenges, we still need to support our children’s education because we believe education is our future”.
She commended all sponsors for their contribution towards their charity activities.
Apart from education, VCFA has also donated to victims of cyclone Harold and contributed to the COVID-19 response.
