The Universal Peace Federation (UPF) has donated 288 cartons of books to the Port Vila Public Library with hopes to revive reading habits within Vanuatu’s learning institutes.

UPF Representative and Country Director, Abel Nakou said there are approximately 1,000 books (Fictional, Non-fictional and Textbooks) donated which will greatly contribute to the development of our town library and will help improve a child’s learning and vocabulary.

“Our first donation of books was made to schools in Tanna island,” Mr Nakou said

“We are looking at ways to support schools and provide resources that can benefit a child’s learning.”

Head Librarian of the Public Library, George Wilbur thanked the UPF for their generous donation and said, “since the collection of books at the town library is limited and we are still in our cataloging process, these new books are guaranteed to be on the shelves earlier next year”.

UPF is a global network of individuals and organizations dedicated to building a world of peace in which everyone can live in freedom, harmony, cooperation and prosperity.

The international federation offers relief and humanitarian programs, service-learning projects, character education and sports programs with a special focus on personal leadership and peacemaking skills.
