Over 100 Ni-Vanuatu workers under the Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP) in Australia and private sponsored students in Fiji are expected to be repatriated on flights to be organised by the Vanuatu Government.

The Education Cluster has decided that the Vanuatu government sponsored students in Fiji will not be repatriated, said Media Focal Person of the Health Cluster, Russel Tamata.

According to Tamata, the contracts of the soon to be repatriated SWP workers are terminated.

A few workers under the Recognized Seasonal Workers (RSE) Scheme have also indicated their intention to return home. Negotiation for the seasonal workers and students’ repatriation is underway with the office of the High Commissions in both countries, he conveyed.

He said arrangement has been made with hotels to accommodate repatriated passengers.

The government will meet accommodation costs, including daily meals provided, he added.
