Joylone May, from Lounalapen village on West Tanna is a farmer and a market vendor who spends most of her time doing farming of agricultural crops and selling them at the Lenakel market house.

She also raises small livestock animals such as chickens and pigs.

“In 2020 I continue to increase production of agricultural crops to ensure enough food for my families and also selling them at the market to earn income,” farmer May stated.

“I usually sell my local produce at the Lenakel market twice a week, Wednesdays and Fridays. Transport cost is not too expensive as I live just nearby.” Her plan for this year 2021 is to keep on planting more root crops and vegetables.

“I would like to encourage female farmers around Lenakel to continue to increase production of agriculture crops to sustain the livelihoods of their families,” she concluded.
