A 23-year-old man, reportedly from China residing in Vanuatu, Tu Chenrui, has been found dead at a Teouma Valley farm in what is suspected to be death by suicide.
This incident was reported to have taken place last Sunday.
A rifle was found next to the deceased's body, associated with fatal injuries found on the young man's body.
The incident occurred inside a house situated on the farm owned by a joint venture company, according to police.
Bigger than the size of a football field, the farmland is located just after the Teouma Bridge. The owners farm small livestock such as pigs, ducks and chickens for profit.
Residents said the late Tu Chenrui has been residing at the farm since 2018 and was a friendly and generous man.
The Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Donald James, conveyed that the deceased was suspected to have committed suicide.
He said the body of the victim has been moved to the hospital for autopsy.
Deputy Director James said police are investigating the cause of the alleged suicide.
Other law enforcement sources say at this stage it is suspected that the man may have taken his own life, but investigations to establish the motive have been reportedly undertaken to establish if that is indeed the case.
