Superintendent: Closure of VCH unfounded rumours

The Superintendent of Vila Central hospital (VCH), Dr. Tony Harry, has dismissed information that the VCH closed its gates yesterday because of fear of the COVID-19.

He said such unfounded rumors must be stopped.

He also dismissed information that VCH staff were not at work yesterday.

“These rumors by some members of the public must be stopped,” he said.

“I wish to assure the public that Vila Central hospital is providing services as normal and as always. Our Outpatients department and the Emergency Services remain open to the public as usual.”

The rumours began circulating in Port Vila yesterday after the announcement of the first COVID-19 case was made public by government officials two days ago.

Dr Harry appealed to the general members of the public to stop spreading rumors, especially at this time.

“All our services at the Vila Central Hospital continue as normal and therefore the members of the public are encouraged to continue using the services,” the VCH Superintendent said.
