South Sea Shipping Responds to Allegations

The owner of South Sea Shipping, John Tonner, has issued a brief statement responding to allegations that he attempted to engage in corrupt acts with a prominent public official.

"I would like to state that I am disappointed in the manner and method of false content that has been posted on social media recently," he stated yesterday.

"While I do not personally subscribe to such platforms, social media is both a blessing and a curse to our society.

"It can be used for the greater good or it can be distorted to promote personal and political agenda's as I have recently seen.

"Having lived and worked in Vanuatu since 2007, I am a proud and passionate Naturalized Ni-Vanuatu Citizen.

"I have always welcomed transparency and truth, to this end I am calling on Vanuatu Police to begin immediate formal investigations into the posting made on social media. To further assist this formal process or inquiry, I offer my full cooperation to establish the facts over opinion and domestic hearsay.

"Such public and defamatory claims are very serious and have real impacts, we must not stand for corruption or coercion in any form. Long God Yumi Stanap."
