The Daily Post reported recently that scammers were stealing personal information from people by masquerading as recruiters for Princess Cruises. Since the article was published, the newspaper has been informed that some people are still operating under the false belief that the recruitment effort is real.
It is not. Princess Cruises are not hiring in Vanuatu.
South Sea Services is the only agent in Vanuatu that is allowed to recruit cruise ship workers. This was reconfirmed yesterday by the recruitment and scheduling manager from P&O Cruises Australia.
Princess Cruises are a sibling organization to P&O. Both are owned by Carnival.
Princess is not hiring in Vanuatu in this time, and has never done so in the past. Only P&O hires Ni Vanuatu crew.
Scammers are passing on contact information and asking applicants to send sensitive information, including a copy of their passport information page to a remote email address.
The public are reminded that they should never send personal data to anyone without first verifying that they have a legitimate reason to have it. Passport information can used for illegal purposes, and can cause legal and financial problems for people whose identity has been stolen.
Anyone who has sent such information overseas, or applied for a crew position in this scam should contact the Police.
