New Zealand Government Partnership with Vanuatu Government supports local Fishers

Fish Market built on former premises of once New Hebrides Cooperative Federation

The Vanuatu Government has completed and will open its Fish Market in Port Vila today (Friday 16 August 2019) at 11.30am.

The Government through the Departments of Fisheries and Industry and Cooperative have worked hard to ensure this facility and all equipment installed meets food safety standards.

While acknowledgement is also made to the assistance of Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) for completing the building structure, the Government would also like to acknowledge New Zealand support for installation of stainless work benches, shelving and other equipment and furniture to enable completion of this Fish Market.

The fish market house provides an opportunity to for market access to rural fishers and addresses sea food safety standards in Vanuatu. It also supports the flow of marine resources from rural to urban centres.
