New Mayor for Port Vila

Newly elected Mayor, Mr. Erick Puyo-festa delivering his speech yesterday.

The Port Vila Municipal Council (PVMC) has now a new Lord Mayor, Mr. Erick Puyo-festa following his unchallenged election yesterday morning at the PVMC Town hall.

Mr. Puyo-festa is replacing outgoing mayor, Vanua’aku Pati (VP) Councilor, Albert Daniel, whose two years’ mandate lapsed this month.

Elected into PVMC under the Green Confederation ticket, Puyo-festa is currently serving his third term in the council. He was the Deputy Mayor for Port Vila for the past two years.

Graon mo Jastis Pati’s candidate, Mrs. Jenny Regenvanu was also elected unanimously as Deputy Lady Mayor.

The PVMC mayor election comes every two years during a mandate of four years.

In 2017, PVMC has a total of 17 elected councilors who formed the council. Four councilors resigned in January to contest the General Elections. All four have been replaced.

Last month, an active PVMC councillor, Vai Maki passed away. Another councilor seat was vacant when councilor Peter Yamak tendered his resignation earlier this month.

Outgoing mayor, Mr. Sandy of Vanua’aku Pati (VP) along with two other VP councillors were absent during the election of the new mayor, yesterday.

There was quorum as 12 councilors were present yesterday.
