Negotiations are underway to send the body of the deceased Filipino home, said the Director General (DG) of the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Spokesperson on all COVID-19 matters, Russel Tamata.
The families of the deceased have requested that his body be sent home rather than burying it here (in Vanuatu), he said. DG Tamata said the government, through the Department of Foreign Affairs and the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) is making travel arrangements to return the body to his families in Philippines.
The body of the deceased will be kept at the VCH morgue until travel arrangements are finalized.
The deceased is one of the crew members of the UK-flagged tanker that recently left Vanuatu waters. His body washed ashore at Pango in Port Vila and was later tested positive for coronavirus.
