Flags were raised high yesterday on October 10 during a joyous parade into town whilst celebrating MALAMPA and Fiji Day.

The MALAMPA-Fiji Day observed their Silver Jubilee under the theme: ‘Strengthening Reconciliation and Unity through Diversity’.

The keynote address was delivered by the President of the Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF), Lambert Maltock, who stated that “every citizen from MALAMPA province and Fiji deserves every right to be happy and celebrate the good achievements we have each made for our country and province”.

“We are not here to celebrate the achievements made by the Government but to celebrate your contributions, as a citizen, towards your province and country,” said Mr Maltock.

“Everyone plays an eminent role in the society, we are all part of the development of our country Vanuatu.

“But above all things, unity keeps us progressing, with our brothers and sisters from Fiji we should always unite and work together as one to achieve the better things in life,” Mr Maltock said.

The Fiji Representative took the chance to share a few words on stage saying, “49 years ago Fiji gained its Independence and since then Vanuatu has become a close friend and ally in the international arena of trade and cultural exchange.

“Our celebrations today will be meaningful and we will continue to assist in Vanuatu’s development.”

Entertaining activities thrived on until noon with featured custom dances from Fiji and Vanuatu.
