The Kava meeting that the Ministry of Agriculture has requested with kava exporters is slated for tomorrow (Friday) at 2.00pm.
The meeting will be addressing the prices of kava between the exporters and farmers.
The call for a meeting was made by the Director General (DG) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity, Amos Moses, over what he described as unfair and low prices paid to kava farmers. The DG said there will be no renewal of export licenses until the meeting.
“The meeting is to have a round table discussion on the low purchasing prices being offered to farmers by kava exporters which does reflect the external kava market prices,” an excerpt of the letter from DG Amos stated.
Daily Post wishes to clarify that in Monday’s issue of the Daily Post that referred to kava prices, the prices of Vt500 or Vt600 were referenced to green kava and not dried kava.
Kava exporters have indicated they will be present at the meeting set for Friday which is expected to be held at the Department of Agriculture premises at Tagabe.
