3G network to be upgraded on Ambae in coming months: TVL

Telecommunication on the island was disrupted after the volcanic eruption.

The people of Ambae Island are expecting to connect to the Telecom Vanuatu Limited (TVL) 3G network in the coming months.

This assurance was conveyed by the TVL CEO, Barlen Lutchmoodoo in response to a call by Prime Minister Charlot Salwai on internet coverage on Ambae.

PM Salwai acknowledged that TVL talk and SMS coverage is available, but, he further urged TVL to upgrade its services, the 3G internet services in particular.

CEO Lutchmoodoo said, “Prior to the Volcano eruption TVL had 5 sites on Ambae.

“However, due to relocation of the population and risk associated with the eruption, TVL has relocated one site from West Ambae.”

One site in North Ambae was also affected and no longer operational, according to the CEO.

“The other 3 sites are working on 2G,” the CEO stated.

The telecommunications company is currently working with Prime Minister’s Office to see how quickly the company can restore the other two sites.
