The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Port Vila constituency who was arrested and remanded in police custody on Tuesday, is still qualified to contest the General Election today.
Kalo Seule was Manager of Parts Plus South Pacific, and failed to return taxes to the Government since December 2010, breaching Section 51 (1)(b) of the VAT Act.
Director of Electoral Office, Joe Iati confirmed that during the screening process, the Department of Customs and Inland Revenue (DCIR) advised that Seule allegedly has an outstanding debt to the Government; however, the case is still pending in court.
He explained that because no decision has been made by court, Seule is eligible to stand in the election.
Seule is contesting again in the Port Vila constituency under an independent ticket.
