Secretary General (SG) of the Union of Moderate Parties (UMP) Wendy Himford has alleged the UMP Tanna region supports Tanna MPs in the Opposition bloc.
Through a communique, SG Wendy Himford said the resignation of MP for Tanna, Robin Kapapa as Leader of Government Business on Thursday 3 September has caused a split.
SG Himford said the national office of UMP has received the resolution of UMP Tanna Region to remain solid and MP Nakou Natuman to join MP Kapapa on the Opposition side.
Mrs. Himford said in time of COVID-19 crisis, financial constraint the request of MP Natuman to seek an increase of his salary as Fourth Deputy Speaker of Parliament is not healthy and appropriate.
“The sudden move of MP Kapapa to the Opposition is to denounce that the government of Prime Minister Bob Loughman is not working for the national interest of the country but for the self interest for some businessmen,” she further alleged, although she did not provide any evidence of her claim.
She said an urgent meeting or national caucus will be called soon, the first of its kind to address the differences in the party, with the input of six Members of Parliament of UMP bloc who are not part of UMP Executive.
