The Governments of Vanuatu and Australia, through the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and the Australian High Commission in Vanuatu, will officially open DARD’s tractor shed today, Friday September 6.
The total cost of construction of the tractor shed, with funding assistance from the Australian Government (DFAT) under the Tropical Cyclone (TC) Pam Recovery Programme is around VT5 Million.
The tractor shed is built purposely to accommodate DARD’s farming tractors and its implements at Tagabe area.
According to the program, official speeches, the cutting of ribbon and unveiling of signage to open the Mechanization and Tractor Shed will be delivered by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity, Matai Seremaiah and Australian High Commissioner to Vanuatu, Jenny Da Rin.
One of DARD’s key programmes is to invest in mechanization to assist farmers improve their livelihood and increase production opportunities throughout Vanuatu.
The Government of Australia has supported many recovery projects in the agriculture sector such as the renovation of five buildings of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Forestry, Fisheries and Biosecurity on Tanna, the establishments of the six small livestock breeding centres, and distribution of potato, carrot and onion seeds to farmers across SHEFA and TAFEA provinces.
