A senior public servant has said if he were sick and given a choice whether to be admitted to the Vila Central Hospital or Lolowai Hospital, he would definitely choose the latter.
Why? A Ministry of Trade senior delegation that recently visited the hospital was so impressed with the clean interior of all the wards which explained why one of them made the suggestion.
The Manager of the hospital pointed to the delegation that making sure that all COVID-19 requirements are kept is a priority of the health facility.
In addition, he introduced to the delegation the over 90% complete Dental Clinic which was setup by the New Zealand Rotary Club. When completed, it will be the first first dental facility to be set up in the hospital.
While thanking their New Zealand partners for funding and building it, he said there are only finishing touches to be made to complete the project. “They were supposed to have returned already to complete the Dental Clinic but the delay is due to the coronavirus”, he said.
Lolowai Hospital has a historical connection with New Zealand since the expatriate doctors and nurses were from Aotearoa — ‘the Land of the Long White Cloud’.
Two historical names that still come to mind today in connection to the hospital are Dr. Mackereth and Sister Pyatt who is now deceased.
