A total of 192 cattle herds will be distributed to 73 farmers at Elizabeth Bay, Cooks Bay and Ipota on Erromango next week as part of the EDF 11 cattle restocking program.

Cattle distribution on Erromango was deferred till next week due to bad weather, according to the Director of Livestock, Lonny Bong.

Over 70 cattle herds will be distributed to farmers on the offshore islands of Santo such as Aore, Aore, Mavea and Tutuba after Erromango, he said.

Distribution of cattle to farmers on the Santo mainland has already been commenced, including on Efate, he conveyed.

“From Santo, we will be offloading cattle on Epi and Malekula,” he said.

The cattle restocking program is in line with the national target of having 500,000 herds of cattle by 2025.
