It took only seconds for this unfortunate young man to be thrown by his bronc at last weekend’s Port Vila Rodeo.

The beast came out of the gate thrashing, and provided one of the most spectacular displays of the morning.

While some mounts took a few moments to warm up to the task, this pony didn’t hesitate. He bounced and jounced immediately out of the gate, threw his astonished rider aside and kept kicking for several more minutes.

Rodeo wranglers took their time approaching the beast, giving him time to calm down before they manoeuvred him down the ramp and into the paddock for a well-earned rest.

The Port Vila rodeo, which many hope will become an annual event, drew well over a thousand people over the weekend. It featured bull riding, bronco busting, barrel races, and pig chase and much, much more. Cyril Mainguy and Buzz 96FM’s own Mark O’Brien provided the play by play during the day, and provided no small entertainment in their own right.

Proceeds from the event will go to ProMedical Rescue, which provides emergency rescue operations in Port Vila and Santo.

It is a distinct and separately funded organisation from the ProMedical paramedic and emergency transport service.
