Vanuatu Volleyball Federation (VVF) bid farewell to JICA volunteer, Rui Yokohama who completed his 11 months assignment as the junior coach and assistant senior coach last week.
VVF is grateful to Rui and JICA’s commitment, his skills and the trainings that he helped with.
“I am planning to come back to Vanuatu in March 2019 because I really enjoyed my time in Vanuatu,” said Yokohama.
After the farewell, VVF welcomed a new coach from Germany, Michel Bargmann that will train the U18 team towards the Youth Olympic Games in October and also the senior team for the Asian Championship and Oceania Championship in Tahiti.
The position is possible with support from the FIVB Development Hub Program that places skilled coaches in countries for three months to assist National Federations.
Bargmann played in Germany’s national team for six years, and played in the German professional tour (smart-beach-tour) for four years.
He also played in many National games, he also has good leadership qualities and coaching skills gained as sports coach and teacher.
The new coach also has good communication skills which he gained through work experience during his travels and also from playing beach volleyball all over the world plus other managerial skills and Business/sectors that he had worked for.
Bargmann is a 4-time German champion (Junior U17-U20), 4th place in the U19 World Championship, 5th place in the U18 European Championships and came 7th place in the U20 European Championships.
With such great talent and knowledge, VVF is very grateful and honoured for having an experienced player and at the same time a coach to travel to a small Pacific country like Vanuatu, to further improve and develop the skills and mindset of the beach volleyball players in Port Vila and thanks the FIVB for their support.
