The Vanuatu National Women’s Cricket team departed Bauerfield airport Tuesday morning this week feeling strong and motivated to participate in the ICC Women’s WT20 — EAP Qualifier in Sano, Japan from 26th April to 6th May 2017. The tournament is hosted by the Japan Cricket Association (JCA).

The team is captained by APT Dolphin’s captain Selina Solman, Meriel Kenni (APT Dolphins CC), Leimauri Chilia, Valenta Langiatu, Leimara Tastuki, Alvina Chilia (Mele Bulls CC), Nasimana Navaika (Tafea Sandalwood CC), Judy Avok, Melissa Velvel Fare (Paama Sharks CC), Christelle Sokomanu, Rachael Andrew, Jessica Chilia, Kyla Niras (Ifira Blackbirds CC). The team is led by Coach Eddie Mansale and Team Manager as well as High Performance Manager & National Coach, Shane Deitz.

The tournament will be a double round robin and teams competing are Japan, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Vanuatu.

The winner of this event qualifies for the 2018 ICC Women’s WT20 – Global Qualifier to be played later this year or early 2018.

“We are very proud of this team and we believe they will do well in Japan,” said VCA General Manager, Pierre Chilia. “The Vanuatu cricket community wishes the team all the best in the tournament and we believe you will make Vanuatu proud, “ Chilia continues.
