The VFF announced the signing on their Facebook page, saying:

“It has taken a few months and over 100 applicants….today finally the New National Coach (Paul Munster) arrives. He is Swedish and also part Irish and he’s 35 yrs old.”

The 35-year-old comes from Minerva Punjab in India where he was first Technical Director of the I-League side, before taking on the Head Coach job there.

He took charge of Minerva Punjab for 16 games during the 2018-19 season, winning only three, before reverting back to his Technical Director job.

Munster was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland but played most of his career abroad, including for Slavia Praha in the Czech Republic.

He retired from playing in 2012 and took up coaching in Sweden where he coached many teams, most notably Assyriska and Örebro Syrianska, two clubs notable for being formed by immigrants from Syria, hence their names.

Munster will now face the challenge of taking Vanuatu far in the Pacific Games in Samoa in July and then aim for the Nations Cup next year.
