Twelve Sports Discipline confirm for National Games

The Tafea LOC (Local Organizing Committee) has finally confirmed twelve Sport Disciplines for the upcoming National Games.

An email from the LOC reports that the Sport Disciplines confirmed are as follows; Football Men and Women, Futsal Men, Volleyball Men and Women, Beach Volley Men and Women, Basketball Men & Women, Netball Women, Athletics, Boxing, Karate, Petangue Men &Women, Table Tennis Men and Women and Surfing (Demonstration). Other disciplines that have not been confirmed will not be catered for.

Rocky Jean Neveserveth from the Department of Youth Development & Sports has confirmed that ground preparation is underway and the games LOC are really putting efforts on ground to ensure that preparations are ready before the game date which will be scheduled from the 5th – 11th of May 2019 on Tanna.

This year’s theme for the National Games is “Sharing the Spirit” where athletes from all provinces will again gather together in TAFEA Province to compete in different disciplines to identify best athletes who will have opportunity to represent the country in any upcoming regional and international events.

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports would like to inform athletes that the selection for the Samoa 2019 Pacific Games is finalized; however, winning individual athletes for the national games will be considered for other avenues.

Meanwhile, reports from Provincial Youth & Sports officers have also confirmed that preparations are so far underway from provinces to select their best athletes to compete at the National Games.

The previous National Games took place in Luganville, Santo in 2016.
