Robert Tasso and Zica Manuhi will play their second O League with Tafea next month

After a long wait, the Vanuatu Champions, Tafea FC, have come out to announce their final 23-man team for the 2015 edition of the Oceania Champions League, to be held in Fiji next month.

Going into their second consecutive participation under coach, Moise Poida, Tafea FC, have retained majority of last year’s team and have replaced Solomon Islands international, Joses Nawo, with another colleague of his, Gibson Daudau.

Nawo reportedly showed interest to join his former club, but his current club, Western United, have also qualified for the tournament next month.

Tafea have also sought help from premier division clubs inside the Port Vila Football Association to strengthen the team before next month.

The only surprise inclusion in the team is the newest addition, Shepherds United defender, Ernie Roberts, being the current captain of the Port Vila selection.

The relatively young Tafea outfit, will look to go one more step further next month, compare to last year’s tournament, which saw the team fail to advance from the group stages, despite creating headlines by beating 2010 Champions, Hekari United in the pool games.

Tafea FC Head Coach, former Vanuatu international, Moise Poida, made it clear that winning the tournament this year is out of reach, but wants his team to do better than last year.

“Our aim this year is to go one more step better than last year’s performance.

“We want exposure for our boys to gain experience in this tournament, so that we can do more better next year if we qualify again, Poida said.

A second round target is the aim for the Poida side.

“We have sought help from Shepherds United, Erakor Golden Star and Tupuji Imere, to lend their players, in return they get to bring back to their clubs the experience they gain during the tournament.”

Tafea FC march into camp at the Teouma Academy on the 31st March and will fly out to Fiji on the 7th of April.

Tafea will play their first ever friendly as a team on Thursday next week with the Vanuatu U23 team.
