Representing a small, nine-athlete Guamanian contingent, Jacinta Sumagaysay will be Guam's first athlete to compete during the 10th Pacific Mini Games in Port Vila, Vanuatu. Sumagaysay, a weightlifter, walked away with a silver medal after clearing 71kg in the snatch.

Sumagaysay cleared all her lifts in the snatch under 58kg division to lay claim to Guam's first medal of the games. She lifted 66kg, 68kg in her prior two attempts. The gold was claimed by Solomon's Jenny Wili at 82kg while bronze went to Sofia Kinikinilau of Fiji who cleared 60kg. "I'm quite happy, but at the same time, bittersweet because of my clean and jerk, but this should help me learn and want more for my future events," said Sumagaysay.

Sumagaysay's statement was in reference to her disappointment when she was unsuccessful in clearing the 88kg on the clean and jerk. With the missed lifts, opportunity for a possible two additional medals vanished.
