The Ministry of Internal Affairs on Thursday assisted Nalkutan Football Club, currently participating in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League, with food supply to assist the team at its camp.
The food supply was donated by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat, witnessed by the Director General Cherol Ala, directors of departments under the ministry, staff and Nalkutan FC representatives.
The donation was made in response to a request from the Club. Minister Napuat says this is not the first time for his ministry to assist a sports team as during the Pacific Mini Games his ministry were ambassadors for the national table tennis team.
He said through the ministry’s assistance to the table tennis team, the first gold medal for Vanuatu was achieved.
With the same spirit of assistance, the ministry that looks after provinces is assisting Nalkutan FC, a team from the province of Tafea that is representing Vanuatu in the OFC Club Champions tournament.
Napuat says for a team that came from the rural area, the club has made history by not only becoming the Vanuatu champion but also topped Pool A of group stage in this OFC-sanctioned tournament.
The minister, who is also a member of parliament for Tanna, was one of the few people that personally assisted Nalkutan FC in the first stage of the competition.
He asked the Club to put God first. Nalkutan FC will play against Marist FC from Solomon Islands on April 7 at 4pm (next Saturday) in Port Vila.
