Men's 40 over champions, Mele Bulls

Mele Bulls were crowned the Men’s 40 over club champions after scraping home victory against Paama Sharks in the grand final which marked the end of the Vanuatu men’s club cricket season.

This win means that the Bulls have won all three of the men’s club cricket competitions this year and remain undefeated.

In the low scoring final, Paama Sharks won the toss and opted to field first, a decision which turned out in their favour as they bowled the Bulls all out in just over the 25th over for a mere 144 runs.

Mansale brothers, Andrew (61) and Eddie (42), were the stars with the bat as they rescued the Bulls from a slow start and held their innings together to set a respectable score.

Wesley Vira (5/45, 7 overs), the captain of Paama Sharks and Apo Stephen (4/18, 6.3 overs) were the standouts for the Sharks as they put on a strong bowling attack to restrict the Bulls.

Apo Stephen (47) then followed his strong bowling performance with a great knock of the bat to top score for the Sharks with 47 runs.

However, efforts from Stephen were not enough to bring the Sharks to victory as Andrew Mansale also backed up his batting with solid bowling taking 5 wickets for 14 runs off the 7.3 overs he bowled which earned him the player of the match award.

Paama Sharks however, won the Men’s 40 over shield after topping the table at the end of round matches but at the end of the day, Mele Bulls were the deserving victors, defeating Paama Sharks by 39 runs.

Vanuatu Cricket would like to acknowledge everyone who supported and participated in the men’s club cricket season this year and are looking forward to another successful year next year.
