The Melbourne Cup — Australia’s most well-known annual purebred horse race — is also widely celebrated in Vanuatu.

It is a 3,200-metre race for three-year-olds and over, conducted by the Victoria Racing Club on the Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne, Victoria as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Iririki Resort was amongst the hosts in Port Vila who contributed in the live streaming of all the action at 3pm.

Yesterday, a number of tourists gathered at the island to watch the live coverage at the infinity bar.

The results of the tournament are as follows:

In first place: CROSS COUNTER — Trainer: Charlie Appleby, jockey: Kerrin McEvoy

In second place: MARMELO — Trainer: Hughie Morrison, jockey: Hugh Bowman

In third place: A PRINCE OF ARRAN — Trainer: Charlie Fellowes, jockey: Michael Walker

In fourth place: FINCHE — Trainer: Chris Waller, jockey: Zac Purton
