A prominent and a house hold name Futsal Club in the Shefa Futsal League Premier Division, the HUKA Futsal Club, is leaving Port Vila for Fiji this week to participate in a first ever Melanesian Futsal Tournament held in Suva.

Marketing Manager, of HUKA FC, Nigel Quai said the tournament is an initiative of both HUKA FC and the Fiji Futsal Association. The purpose of the tournament was to help develop the futsal discipline in Fiji, as futsal is becoming a major sport discipline in the Pacific Region.

The tournament host, Mr. Intiaz Khan of the Combine Brothers Football Club and the Fiji National Futsal Team Manager, said Futsal is becoming more and more important in the world soccer discipline today, so to progress Fiji soccer to the next level it is vitally important to develop futsal as the bases of Fiji soccer discipline.

This tournament came about after, HUKA FC Marketing Manager, Nigel Quai, and the current President, Job Andy met with Khan and the CEO of the Fiji Football Association in June 2016, in Suva.

Khan expressed that this tournament will be an annual event after this year’s tournament, and aim to expand to become the Major Melanesian Challenge of the Champions Futsal Tournament where the Champion Clubs from each respective countries, Fiji, Solomon Islands, New Caledonia, Vanuatu and event PNG to challenge each other annually. This way, it will also expose and market skilled players, regionally and internationally.

This week, at the Vodafone Arena courts, in Suva, HUKA FC will challenge the two champion clubs of the Solomon Islands, Gnu Brothers FC, and INDO Solomon FC, and the Fiji National Futsal Team.

HUKA FC President, Andy and HUKA FC Team Manager, Vusi, dully appreciate the support of the Shefa League Executive, the VFF Futsal development Office, the Business Houses and every individual’s that support financially to enable the club’s participation in this first ever Melanesian Futsal tournament in Fiji.

HUKA FC Marketing Manager, Quai, said this is the second time that HUKA FC initiated such tour outside of Vanuatu. The club’s first tour was to the Solomon Islands in 2013, where HUKA FC had the opportunity to challenge all the top and leading clubs of the Solomon Islands. Quai exclaimed that the club’s endeavors has resulted, one its player, Jean Claud Tama is now playing for Massey University – Albani Futsal Club in New Zealand and has been selected into the New Zealand Northern Football Federation, National Futsal squad. HUKA FC player, Edward Junior Kasute’e is currently with the Solomon Islands National Futsal team “Kurukuru”, that is currently participating in the Asian Games, in Hong Kong. HUKA FC keeper, Anthony Christopher Quai, is now engaged with Premier Club, Mawia FC, in the Port Vila Soccer League. Keeper Anthony C Quai is likely to trial for the Under 23 Vanuatu National Team.

HUKA FC Team manager, Vusi, confirm that both players, Jean Claud Tama, and Edward J Kasute’e and even Keeper, A C Quai will all join the club for the Fiji tour. Vusi, said he has to add on a couple of players from other clubs such as, Donald Avock from AVEC FC, and Samson Hotas from Black Diamond FC, to strengthen the team in this tournament with their experience and skill.

HUKA FC senior coach, Samuel Sam, and team captain, Ben Hungai (Former Vanuatu National Futsal Captain) confirm that the team is ready for the tournament and ready to take on the challenge.

The HUKA FC Executive are excited to be part of pioneering futsal development in Fiji. The club’s President, Mr. Andy expressed that he is confident that his club capable to reach the finals of the tournament. Mr Andy also expressed that he is happy that his club, is able to contribute to the development of the futsal discipline in Fiji, and also to expose the club’s players regionally and internationally.
