Imaki women’s team have won the first ever Hurley Lawyers women’s community cricket cup which took place at the Vanuatu Cricket Grounds from August 25th to 31st.
Vanuatu Cricket, with the sponsorship of Hurley Lawyers, provided this opportunity for mothers to enjoy cricket, recognizing that some of them have never played hardball cricket before but would like to make the transition from Island Cricket to hardball cricket.
The competition was played in double round robin format and featured a team from Beverly Hills, Imaki and two teams from Mele village (Warasiviu and Lakenatau).
With cash prizes up for grabs, the mothers put on an outstanding display of cricket which VCA women’s cricket supervisor, Amelia Lawac, believes has “given them a taste of real cricket and they enjoyed it.”
Imaki mothers were the outstanding team of the competition, resulting in their first place victory at the end of the day.
Lakenatau team claimed second place while Beverly hills third and Warasiviu fourth.
“I am very happy with the effort put in from all the outstanding women who participated and I am looking forward to having this women’s community cup become an annual event,” Lawac said.
The VCA would like to acknowledge the sponsorship from Hurley lawyers and are hoping that this partnership will continue into the future as Cricket becomes more inclusive of women of all ages and abilities.
