Beach Cricket finalists and VCA staff

Over 200 children from schools around Port Vila participated in the annual VCA beach cricket competition at Mele beach last Friday September 7th, which featured a double win for Melemaat School in both the boys’ and girls’ category.

This annual beach cricket program is aimed at creating fun ways to enjoy, learn and practice cricket and help children see that cricket is an exciting sport which can be enjoyed anywhere if you use your imagination and creativity.

The program has become a hit with schools and Pierre Chilia, the General Manager of the VCA, believes that it is a development pathway because the fun playing environment allows for cricket to be enjoyed which then improves children’s cricketing skills.

“The VCA has been running this program for thirteen years now and the enthusiasm from the participants still remains exciting,” he said.

“I have also seen huge improvements in children’s cricketing skills and I believe that they learn more during programs like these because they are having fun.

“The VCA will continue to run this program annually because we believe in providing fun and creative ways for current participants and the new participants that we are expecting,” he concluded.
