Dear fellow and humble citizens,
Let me start with this verse from Proverbs 31: 8 – “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute”.
This is a humble message and a reminder for those who have the heart to listen and to those who take time to understand someone’s struggle.
Don’t you know that in Vanuatu the number of people with disabilities is increasing and they are suffering from health conditions, non-communicable diseases, discrimination, and violence?
Do you see how we put them aside most of the time in our small and beautiful Port Vila, in our communities and in our homes? Why are you holding back their rights to attend schools? Do you know that a person regardless of their disability has the same human rights as you?
How do you feel if someone neglected you and rule over you?
Just remember that we are created with equal feelings.
Hey, I know how it felt when a Person Living with Disability is neglected because I grew up with one too.
Don’t you know that “God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them”.
Why are we creating policies with our brain without our hearts and actions?
What are we waiting for to transform our exclusive society into an inclusive one?
Why are you labeling or criticizing them with names that they never know of? For people to praise you?
You can have anything you want in life but you can never take away a single right of a person with a disability.
It is time to stand tall and cherish our diversities.
Treat our people with disability with love and respect because we all deserve it.
Let us stand together with one voice, families of Vanuatu, and create a world full of Love and Respect so every citizen can enjoy a safe Society.
