Dear Editor,

Thank you for my space. I would like to convey my condolences to the family of the late Aicha, whom we tragically lost.

As a concerned resident of Port Vila and a frequent user of public transport, I would like to state that I am not here to point fingers and blame anyone for the tragedy.

However, I would like to make a few recommendations to the Land Transport Authority that would help make public transport safer which could prevent similar tragedies from happening in future.

All public transport (buses and taxis mainly) must be installed with the following:

1. On-board CCTV cameras

2. GPS tracking devices to track their movement from a central station

3. A panic button for drivers to alert authorities should the need arise.

As an extra regulation. All buses should have their cabin lights on at all times during the night.

This may be expensive but it would be better to fund upgrades for safety rather than to pay for coffins or investigations.

Prevention is better than cure.

Enjoy the weekend safely.
