The Public Service Commission (PSC) has appointed Shadrack Welegtabit as the new Acting Director of the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO).
Welegtabit confirmed he was appointed to the acting position last week after receiving a three months notice for his removal as the Director of the Government Tribunal Remuneration (GRT) under the Prime Minister’s Office.
Daily Post understands the removal of NDMO Director Abraham Nasak and Welegtabit as GRT Director follows formalities as PSC is preparing to fill the position across all government departments with new candidates.
Welegtabit will be occupying the acting position until a new NDMO Director is appointed. Mr Welegtabit is not new in the field.
Welegtabit was a longtime director of NDMO with expertise in the field of disasters and emergencies.
Before he became the GRT Director, he was serving as the Director of NDMO until 2017 when he was replaced by Nasak
Welegtabit was assigned to carry out duties as the Incident Controller for the Ambae Volcano Disaster Operation when he was serving as the Director of GRT.
PSC approved his temporary transfer to Ambae where he stayed for some time to manage the Penama Emergency Operation Centre based on his many years of experience gained in the industry and handling previous disasters like cyclone Pam.
Welegtabit’s appointment became effective since November 30.
