Water Zone squatters await road construction

Chairlady, Councilor Rose Peter and her Vice, Councilor Peter Yamak

By Glenda Willie

The chairlady and vice chairman of the Water Zone project committee are demanding answers from the Government as to when the construction of road on the subdivided plots at Ohlen Freshwind is going to take place, as part of the Water Zone Project.

Councilor Rose Peter, who currently chairs the committee and vice chairman, councilor Peter Yamak expressed the concerns of the people they represent, saying they have waited a long time and want to know when works are expected to commence.

They are concerned that the Government is developing and upgrading the roads in other provinces but has “failed to address the needs of its people in the capital’s doorstep”.

In August last year, the then Minister of Lands, Ralph Regenvanu informed Daily Post the people would relocate to the subdivided plots at Ohlen Freshwind once roads are done by the Public Works Department.
