Market vendors will be moving into the new market Houses- Haos Blong Handikraf and Mahitahi located at the Sea Front from November 20, 2017.

This has been confirmed through a signing of an Understanding between Port Vila Municipal Council, Department of Tourism and Department of Industry yesterday morning.

According to Director General Cherol Ala, the signing between these relevant authorities has agreed on areas targeting the short-term management of the market houses.

Ms Ala said vendors who are eligible to sell their products at the market must apply and meet the required criteria and that includes selling only ‘Made in Vanuatu’ products. They will have to sign the short-term agreement.

The vendors will not be charged any rent, but fees will be imposed when the agreement lapses in March next year.

The Department of Industry and the Department of Tourism will equally share the costs of the utilities associated with the market houses.

It has been agreed that Port Vila Municipal Council will be responsible for providing municipal services, these include, but limited to, security, cleaning, gardening, and the provision of toilets.

Port Vila Municipal Council and the Department of Industry will continue to work in the MoU for the long-term management of the market houses as a matter of urgency.
