Vaturisu Council of Chiefs of Efate and offshore islands is moving into the next gear with its plans to have its own meeting house.
On Friday, April 13, 2018, the Vaturisu Council of Chiefs Chairman, Chief Henry Manlaewia, announced that Vaturisu will be performing a ceremony for the building of the Vaturisu Council of Chiefs Farea or Nakamal on Friday next week, April 20.
He says the construction of the Vaturisu Farea has received the support of the Shefa Provincial Council to be built on land allocated to Vaturisu at Marope close to the Shefa Marope Market at Bladiniares Estate.
As partners in this development, Shefa and Vaturisu will jointly organize the program for the official groundbreaking ceremony to be held on Friday, April 20 at 2 p.m.
Vaturisu Secretary General, Chief Jimmy Meameadola, has confirmed that the program is being jointly organized by Shefa and Vaturisu and that they are sending invitations to over 50 Paramount Chiefs of Efate and its offshore islands and the Shefa Chiefs residing on Efate.
Vaturisu Chairman Manlaewia clarified that this development was planned before the recent visit of HRH the Prince of Wales to Port Vila. Incidentially, the visit was not attended by the chiefs of Vaturisu over concerns about the program of the visit.
Anyhow, the building of a Vaturisu Council of Chiefs Farea has been one of the agenda items mandated to the current Vaturisu Executive under the leadership of Chairman Chief Manlaewia since the Vaturisu conference held at Epau Village in 2013.
Chief Manlaewia says that even though the timing for the launching is close to the end of his term of office at the end of this month, he is pleased that his executive will be able to deliver according to the mandate given to it.
Vaturisu is calling on all Natatok Efate who are able to join them along with Shefa families at the launching next Friday, which highlight will be custom dance performances from Efate and Shefa.
