The Director of the Department of Customs and Inland Revenue (DCIR), Benjamin Malas and Deputy Director George Pakoa have been suspended.
Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC) Martin Mahe confirmed the duo received their suspension letter on January 4, 2019 (last Friday).
The PSC chairman did not elaborate on the grounds of suspension but both Mr Malas and Mr Pakoa are temporarily out of office, awaiting the results of a police investigation.
He said the details of the suspension and allegations will be made public sometimes next week, once the police investigation is completed.He described the allegations as “serious” and that the police investigating team has commenced investigation .
The PSC chairman said part of the investigation team is now in Santo.
PSC will appoint an acting director and an acting deputy director while waiting for the matter to be resolved.
